papa y yoyo

The main inspiration for the creation of this film was Jorge Luna’s father passing due to COVID-19 (28 Nov. 2020). In this Butoh dance inspired experimental film, the character of papa wrestles against an inevitable predicament caused by a love triangle of his own making. His maximum effort to do what he thinks is best is eclipsed by things not entirely going his way. papa's journey is one filled with difficult plight- his actions coloured by obvious embarrassment and antipathy towards the things that are not in agreement with his views. His son, yoyo watches attentively. The piece is scored by Felipe Rosario Goyco's "Madrigal" as interpreted by "Trío Los 3 Nombres," my father's real-life, three person music band, recorded in San Juan, Puerto Rico, 1983.
